MASSAGE MODALITIES

All treatments are custom tailored to you, meaning any modality can be incorporated into your massage session. Contact me to discuss what techniques will suit your individual needs! Looking forward to connecting.

Swedish Style

A massage targeted to relaxation and tension relief, best suited if you prefer a light to medium pressure. Swedish style aims to improve blood flow, lymph drainage, and relaxation.

Deep Tissue

A combination of trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and assisted stretching. Best if you can handle deep pressure targeted to specific areas of the body. By targeting trigger points (aka sensitive spots in muscles and fascia) it is possible to relieve pain and increase motion of the specified area.

Lomilomi

Lomilomi is a traditional Hawaiian style massage that has been passed down through generations by master practitioners. Initially this style of massage was intended to serve Polynesian warriors returning from battle, with a full body massage consisting of long fluid strokes to resemble the waves of the ocean. Long repetitive motions connect the upper and lower extremities of the body to create a sensory stimulation that helps the nervous system relax. This modality also focuses heavily on the breath allowing the client to reach a deeper state of rest. Abdominal massage is traditionally incorporated to help aid digestion, gently massage the organs, and receive full body benefits of Lomilomi massage including; lymphatic flow, stimulating blood circulation, relaxing the nervous system, and pain relief.

Reflexology

All nerve endings extend to the hands, feet, and ears. Applying acupressure (a technique similar to acupuncture) to reflexology zones can send signals to the brain to evoke a physical response in the body. Clients may have specific ailments to address or points may be discovered during a session.

Thai Yoga Bodywork

A mix of stretching, dry massage, working with meridian lines, and specific Thai massage techniques. Thai Yoga Bodywork is traditionally done on a mat, however I generally incorporate the techniques I have learned in each custom massage on the table. This is a great massage to receive after travel to improve circulation and flexibility for stiff muscles. Please contact to see if this is the right massage style for you.

Prenatal

Pregnancy massage consists of circular strokes and mild stretching. Much of the massage is targeted to your comfort and can include abdominal massage. Most prenatal treatments target the intercostals, sciatic, and moving lymph from swollen areas (but each treatment is custom and dependent on the stage of pregnancy.) I only perform side-lying pregnancy massage and for safety purposes I ask that you begin massage AFTER the first trimester (please notify me for ANY massage if you think you may be pregnant to avoid contraindications.)

Modern Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient practice that has been adapted to modern therapies for a wide variety of treatments. Cupping can provide pain relief, create space in the structure of the body, manipulate scar tissue, rehydrate tissues, breakup cellulite, encourage lymphatic drainage, improve range of motion, and so much more. Cups primarily create negative pressure (to lift tissues and manipulate the fascia), stimulate vasodilation (promoting blood circulation, bringing new oxygenated blood to areas of stagnation), and enhance fluid exchange (awakening the lymphatic system). Modern cupping is a relaxing modality that achieves deep work and a wonderful enhancement to any massage therapy session!
